The journey starts now

I have resigned from work a few months back.

"Bad timing man" and "You must be out of your mind" is what most people say.
Who could blame them? It was 2009, the onslaught of the global financial crisis. People are affected by companies being downsized here and there. The learned tell me that I should remain in the company, continue in what I was doing, and just be thankful that I have a job.

They don’t get me though. I had to resign.

I felt that something was amiss.
It didn't feel right anymore.
I noticed something strange, as if there was a conspiracy happening, like being trapped in the matrix.

This is what I've noticed:

I'd get up every morning, compete with other workers to the public transport, then work for 8, 9, 10 hours a day... go home... then wake up the next day, rush to the office, pay the bills, go home, wake up, rush to work, pay the bills. It's a never ending pattern!

There must be a better way.

Guess what? There is a better way! I'll get to that in a bit.

So, I finally decided to resign. It wasn't an easy decision, believe me. (More about it later)

But you know what? I couldn't have been happier.

Because for once, I didn't feel like chasing after every payday.

Robert Kiyosaki, the author of Rich Dad Poor Dad calls this pattern "The Rat Race"

According to Mr. Kiyosaki, people's lives are run forever by two emotions: fear and greed. He added that people react often times to their emotions instead of think.

I agree with him.

Before I resigned, I was afraid of a lot of things. One of which, I feared not having money.

According to Kiyosaki, most people really do not confront this fear. Instead, they get their bucks on payday and then they get the feeling of joy and desire then greed takes over.

This fear makes them trapped in the Rat Race. They go home from work thinking of not having money. With that emotion, they work harder, thinking that their hard earned buck would melt their fears away. But come to think of it, this cycle really does not solve the problem on the long term. Ultimately, money ends up running their lives… people live to work for money!

What is the answer then? What is that better way? How can we get out of the rat race?

Here it is.

According to Kiyosaki, it all starts in the mind. The mind is the biggest leverage that we can have. We should do some serious reprogramming in the way we think about money. How? Start your financial education.

Financial education, you say?

Yep, financial education.

Our education systems thought us on how to become good employees and how to take care of companies. Unfortunately, our education system didn’t teach us on how to make money work for us.

The lack of financial education is the reason why some people are rich, and most are poor.

Learn to stop working for money. Instead, make money work for you!

Think of ways on how to get out of that rat race. Use your mind, not your emotions!

Today, my financial education begins.
